Tanesha and Andrew’s summer Hobart elopement

There is something lovely about a summer elopement in Hobart: a garden ceremony, a little wandering through old streets, and an evening that leaves plenty of room for dinner with your favourite people. Tanesha and Andrew brought all of that together, with friends and family close by and a sunset that turned the sky over the mountain orange and pink.

Their day began at Islington Hotel in South Hobart. The hotel’s established garden and views towards kunanyi / Mount Wellington gave them a peaceful place to get ready and say their vows, with the city’s streets and waterfront within reach for portraits afterwards. Inside, Tanesha’s dress and veil waited against a dark wardrobe; outside, Andrew stood beneath the trees in his black tuxedo.

Britt Withers brought the day together for The Elopement Collective, with Josh Withers leading the ceremony. Tanesha and Andrew held hands on the lawn, read their vows and laughed together while their guests watched from beside the weeping willow. There were tears, too, followed by a kiss and a walk back through their smiling friends and family.

The Romantics created the white blooms, a beautiful companion to Tanesha’s dress and the green of the garden. George Bowden photographed the day on both digital and film, keeping the ceremony, the little in-between moments and the changing evening light together in one story.

Battery Point portraits and a Hobart sunset

After the ceremony, Tanesha and Andrew headed to Arthur Circus in Battery Point for portraits among the cottages, garden fences and curved streets. Her veil caught the light as they walked hand in hand. From there, they continued to the Hobart Regatta Grounds before returning to the Islington for their small reception.

Artaud & Co styled the reception: white table linen, candles and flowers beneath the conservatory’s glass roof. With their friends and family around the tables, the celebration settled into dinner as that remarkable sunset unfolded beyond the windows. The mountain became a silhouette, the conservatory glowed, and the day ended back where it had begun.

A Hobart elopement can hold all of this in a small celebration: somewhere beautiful to stay, a personal ceremony, a change of scenery for photographs and a good evening together. Explore eloping in Tasmania, or tell us what you have in mind.
