Danielle and Adam came down from Townsville with the smallest handful of their favourite people for an elopement in Brisbane. Their whole day unfolded at The Calile Hotel and around the James Street precinct in Fortitude Valley: getting ready, getting married and stepping out together, all within the same little pocket of the city.

A terrace ceremony above Brisbane

The morning began in the hotel suite, with Danielle’s short white dress hanging beside an arched window and her bouquet waiting on the sofa. Peach and white blooms by Mrs Gibbons brought warmth to the pale stone and soft pink walls, with orchids trailing through the bouquet and flowers gathered around branches on the terrace.

Outside, the city skyline sat behind their ceremony. Josh Withers married Danielle and Adam among those flowers, with the people they had brought to Brisbane close by. There were rings, a kiss and champagne afterwards, with George Bowden photographing the moments as they happened.

The Calile and James Street

There’s a reason The Calile is a favourite of ours. It gives a small celebration room to breathe, with beautiful spaces close together and a neighbourhood worth wandering just outside. The hotel was also named among The World’s 50 Best Hotels in 2025.

Danielle and Adam’s portraits moved from the open rooftop and white brick stairs to the hotel’s shaded walkways, ivy walls and gold mirrored lift. Her white dress and black ribbon, his black suit and their peach bouquet tied the photographs together as they explored the hotel and James Street.

George Bowden’s photographs tell the day in sequence below, and Bulb Creative’s film brings another way to revisit it. A few favourite people, a trip down from Townsville and a whole elopement within one Brisbane neighbourhood.
