Clare and Matt kept their Brisbane elopement close: twelve guests, their immediate family and a few of their closest friends, gathered at The Calile Hotel in Fortitude Valley. The Elopement Collective brought the day together, with Josh Withers as their celebrant, Mrs Gibbons creating the blooms and Harley from Bulb Creative behind the cameras.

A morning together

They got ready together and shared their vows privately before walking into the ceremony hand in hand. Clare’s draped ivory Sasha dress, by Danielle Frankel, moved softly against the hotel’s stone and pink tile. Matt wore a bespoke black M.J. Bale suit with gold heirlooms from his late grandfather.

Harley’s film photographs begin with the details: the dress hanging in the suite, ivory heels, a pale bag, gold jewellery and white flowers. Then the two of them, helping each other get ready, reflected together in the bathroom mirror. On the terrace, the city stretches behind them as Matt reads from a green vow booklet, Clare beside him with champagne in hand.

A change of plans, a room full of people they love

Rain arrived just as their planned terrace ceremony was about to begin. Matt, Harley and Josh moved the suite’s furniture aside and brought everyone indoors. The living space became their ceremony space, with the guests seated close enough to share every laugh.

The photographs hold those small moments: Clare looking down at their hands during the ring exchange, the two of them facing each other, and the kiss met by applause. Afterwards, the celebration spilled back onto the terrace.

Champagne, film and portraits around The Calile

Harley photographed the day on both digital and film. The gold mirrored lift, white brick terraces and warm stone walls gave Clare and Matt places to pause together, still holding their champagne. A softly blurred terrace portrait sits alongside crisp flash photographs; later, a black and white film frame finds them seated together on a sofa.

Their celebration continued at Pilloni. The couple’s advice feels entirely at home in this day: “Do what feels true to you as a couple.”
